  • Freestyle Terrain Stop! Read This! Sign

The Freestyle Terrain Stop! Read This! sign provides basic information to all users entering and/or using Terrain Park facilities. This sign contains important safety points and liability information.

For your own safety and enjoyment and the safety and enjoyment of other Terrain Park users, follow the rules outlined on this sign.

  • Terrain Park Levels Sign

The Freestyle Terrain Park sign outlines each level so you will understand the rating of the Park and the features in the Park that you are about to enter and determine if you should even be in the area. The uneducated park user puts themselves and others at risk.

Georgian Peaks uses the Terrain Park Rating System. Please take the time to review the symbols and ensure you understand them.

  • Inverted Aerial Manoeuvres Not Permitted

  • Alpine Responsibility Code

Remember, it is always your responsibility to ride or ski within your limits. Don't end your season early by trying tricks or features that are beyond your ability. The Alpine Responsibility Code outlines the "rules of the road" for the slopes. You are accountable for your actions and violations. Play smart and safe.

Failure to follow the rules of the Alpine Responsibility Code and/or the Terrain Park Rules will result in the removal of your Park Pass and Lift Pass.

  • FOUR MAIN POINTS OF SMART STYLE

    MAKE A PLAN

    • Every time you use Freestyle Terrain, make a plan for each feature you want to use.
    • Your speed, approach and takeoff will directly affect your manoeuvre and landing.

    LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP

    • Before getting into freestyle terrain, observe all signage and warnings.
    • Scope around the jumps first, not over them.
    • Use your first run as a warm up run and to familiarize yourself with the terrain.
    • Be aware that the features change constantly due to weather, usage, grooming and time of day.
    • Do not jump blindly and use a spotter when necessary.

    EASY STYLE IT

    • Know your limits and ski/ride within your ability level.
    • Look for small progression parks or features to begin with and work your way up.
    • Freestyle skills require maintaining control on the ground and in the air.
    • Do not attempt any features unless you have sufficient ability and experience to do so safely.

    RESPECT GETS RESPECT

    • Respect the terrain and others.
    • One person on a feature at a time.
    • Wait your turn and call your start.
    • Always clear the landing area quickly.
    • Respect all signs and stay off closed terrain and features.

When using the Freestyle Terrain, you assume the risk of any injury that may occur. The ski area operators liability is excluded by the terms and conditions on your Guest Pass/SeasonPass/Park Pass release of liability.

  • Riding off the side's and corners of a feature takeoff ramp

What a majority of people don't realize is that most of the park danger, is not the kids flying in the air over rails & snow features, but the beginners to the park who may unknowingly sit or stand on landing hills, or may misuse feature take off ramps by using them as jumps.

Problem #1: in the park is the innocent bystander(s) being caught in the landing area – whether sitting, standing or crossing to the other side of the trail. This is extremely dangerous; many times skiers/riders can't see them until it's too late and are already in the air. Both people can be seriously injured, either by being landed on or by the jumper trying to change maneuvers to avoid hitting the other person.

Problem #2: The other park danger is using the ramps, which are meant as a take off ramps for snow features, boxes and rails, as small jumps (and this is difficult for people because they do look like little jumps).

There are three potential issues with this:

    1. Hitting these transitions inappropriately as a jump usually sends the skier/rider off to the side of the trail (the safe ski zone) where unsuspecting skiers/riders can get hit.
    2. It breaks down the hit, putting grooves in the take off, etc., making it dangerous for skiers/riders trying to use the take off ramp properly.
    3. The skier/rider misusing the take off ramp runs the risk of injuring themselves by falling into the feature (rail or box, etc.) if something goes wrong with take off, if they fall or catch an edge.

Our Freestyle Terrain staff will be revoking freestyle terrain pass privileges to anyone who is not utilizing our freestyle terrain safely, or who may be causing or creating an unsafe environment for others.

Remember: Respect gets respect. Respect the terrain and others.
